Community Ecologies - Collective Cartographies Mapping Workshop

Join us for 'Collective Cartographies Mapping Workshop' Saturday 18th October. workshop invites participants to make a large-scale collective map of Bethnal Green Nature Reserve – as it is, and as it could be. Our map will begin by drawing from our memories and sensory experiences of the reserve as it exists today. Then, it will become a tool for speculation, inviting us to imagine how the reserve might transform and adapt in a changing climate.

Bethnal Green Nature Reserve has been cared for by local residents and volunteers since 1977. Originally a WWII bomb-site, it now supports a thriving ecosystem of plants, bats, birds, fungi, and more—including people.

Leela is a writer, editor and transdisciplinary artist based in London. Her work weaves political ecology, counter-cartography and speculative fiction to imagine liberatory ecological futures. She holds a master’s in architecture from the Architectural Association, where she now works as an editor.
