Community Ecologies - Forage & Preserve: Wild Food Skills for Urban Ecology Led by Magdalena

Join us for a Forage & Preserve making workshop on Saturday 20th September. This is a hands-on workshop where you’ll explore the edible urban abundance growing all around us.. Learn how to identify, harvest, and preserve wild plants, while discovering how urban foraging can support both ecological health and creative home cooking.

This 1-hour session includes a guided foraging walk, plant identification, and practical preservation techniques such as pickling and fermenting. You’ll leave with new skills, a jar of something tasty, and a deeper connection to your local landscape.

Bethnal Green Nature Reserve has been cared for by local residents and volunteers since 1977. Originally a WWII bomb-site, it now supports a thriving ecosystem of plants, bats, birds, fungi, and more—including people.

Magdalena originally born in Mexico, she has a background in architecture, design, and sustainable practices. Passionate about creative cooking and the natural world, she brings a playful, practical approach to learning about wild world foods and urban ecology. Her workshops aim to empower communities through hands-on skills that nourish both people and the planet.
