This is the second in a series of talks and workshops addressing urgent material, social and environmental concerns through conversation, making, and thinking together.

1pm - 5:30pm

In this two part workshop you will have the chance to learn some practical plumbing skills, with Ariana Jordão, Water Resources Biologist from The Centre for Alternative Technology - whilst helping to install the soak-away for our new compost toilet. All welcome to drop in and get involved.

6pm – 8pm

We will be joined by Dr Tse-Hui Teh and Dr Lena Ciric from UCL’s Pee and Poo for Food research project, which explores the use of composting toilets in cities through the lens of urban design and microbiology. Hui and Lena will uncover some of the secrets and problems with conventional plumbing systems, and share their learning about alternative systems in the city.

During their interactive talk we will have the chance to take a closer look at the microbial communities that inhabit our compost piles and everyday lives, and to think about their relationship with human and non-human communities.

Drinks and snacks will be provided throughout the day. All are welcome to come to the afternoon or evening sessions, or both!

This event will be held outside in the amphitheatre at Bethnal Green Nature Reserve, so do bring comfortable clothing for being outdoors. If you have any access requirements which you would like us to accommodate for either of these sessions please write to hari@nomad.org.uk
