The plants explored originate from different parts of the world and hold deep significance in traditional Chinese culture and medicine. This session invites participants to share stories, experiences and knowledge around growing plants from different heritages in a changing climate.

Yuyu’s work explores how diversifying what we grow can be both a cultural act and an ecological response to climate change.

Yuyu is a Chinese horticulturist with experience across botanical and historic gardens in London. Her work explores how plant stories can reconnect people across communities and with the land, while recognising the histories and collective knowledge connected to plants grown across global majority communities.

About Bethnal Green Nature Reserve
Cared for by local residents and volunteers since 1977, the reserve was originally a WWII bomb-site and is now a thriving ecosystem supporting plants, bats, birds, fungi and more — including people.
