Without stronger controls, plastic production could triple by 2050, increasing pressure on ecosystems and human health. Despite years of international negotiations towards a global plastics treaty, progress has been slow.

Drawing on her reporting of the UN negotiations, Emma will explore what is holding back action — from negotiation challenges and shifting geopolitics to the influence of the fossil fuel industry — and what alternative pathways could work.

About Bethnal Green Nature Reserve
Cared for by local residents and volunteers since 1977, the reserve was originally a WWII bomb-site and is now a thriving ecosystem supporting plants, bats, birds, fungi and more — including people.
