The Bethnal Green Nature Reserve is hosting an artist talk with Jessica Ashman, celebrating her 2026 billboard commission, It Feels Like Going Back Home, and accompanying audio documentary, With Just A Little Effort, Anything Is Possible.

Jessica will share her research and creative process behind these location-specific works, exploring how tending the land and growing food can connect us to culture, memory, identity and a sense of belonging.

Together, we’ll also consider how tending the land and growing your own food strengthens our relationship with the land, culture and one another. 

Both the billboard and audio piece will be presented at the Nature Reserve on the day.

Jessica Ashman is a Black British interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, natural dye, animation, textiles, music, performance and installation. Rooted in her Jamaican and working-class heritage, her work explores how knowledge is collected, preserved and passed between generations, including through cultural memory, folklore and relationships with land and ecology.

It Feels Like Going Back Home is part of Bethnal Green Nature Reserve’s research into climate and adaptation, supported by City Bridge, Wellcome and King’s College London.
