Join visual artist and researcher Dr Paula do Prado for a hands-on fibre and textile workshop exploring tactile, intuitive and “feel-thinking” ways of connecting with land, climate and relational wellbeing.

Through open-ended experimentation with thread, beads, textured yarns, paper-covered wire and fabric offcuts, participants will explore wrapping, knotting, looping and cobbling to create their own material expressions.

No previous experience is required.

Workshop time: 2–3.30pm
Places: Maximum 15 participants (free, no booking)
Age: 12 years+
Under 16s: All children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Rather than teaching a specific skill or technique, Paula shares elements of her creative practice through materials, samples and experimental processes that reference and disrupt Eurocentric and gendered narratives around traditional fibre and textile practices.

The workshop offers a space to gather, co-create and exchange, encouraging participants to explore their own creative wisdom and visual language without pressure to produce a particular outcome. Materials and experiments created during the session can be taken home as a memento of the experience.

About Paula do Prado

Dr Paula do Prado is a visual artist, researcher and workshop facilitator from Uruguay, living and working on Gadigal Country in Sydney, Australia. Her workshops have developed alongside her studio and exhibition practice, creating spaces for collective making, exchange and experimentation.
