Autumn Tree School - Skills for life in a changing world

Our Children’s Tree School returns this autumn half term.

Join us for a unique outdoor holiday club for children aged 8–11 (applications from 7- and 12-year-olds are also welcome), where every day is packed with hands-on nature activities, creativity and discovery. Set in the beautiful Bethnal Green Nature Reserve, children will explore the natural world, build practical skills and make new friends while learning how to care for our changing planet.

Each day children will:

  • 🐞 Build habitats for wildlife
  • 🎨 Get creative with nature-inspired art and crafts
  • 🌱 Discover the basics of herbalism
  • 🌍 Explore climate change through fun, interactive activities
  • 🍃 Practise mindfulness and connect with nature

Children can attend individual days or book multiple sessions - each day offers a different experience.

Meet the Team

Odhran (they/them) is a community and medical herbalist, offering workshops in East London, and seeing patients through their clinic Mordica Herbs. They intertwine stories and creative play to nurture human connection with medicinal plants, and grow knowledge of their traditional and biomedical uses for human and environmental resiliency.

Edward has been working with Forest Friday for the past 4 years, alongside caring for the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve. At the Tree School, Edward will run activities focused on building habitats for local animals, and creative ways of learning about the weather.

Shilpi has been working at the Nature Reserve for over five years, delivering engaging nature-based games and creative craft activities. She also works with young children at Rangers Kindergarten, using play, creativity and outdoor learning to help them build confidence and curiosity. At the Tree School, Shilpi will lead fun, hands-on sessions that encourage children to explore, create and work together while developing a deeper connection with the natural world.

Christine is an interdisciplinary artist, workshop facilitator and paint-maker. Her work pays homage to the earth, reimagining archaic cultural practices such as pigment-making and egg tempera techniques. Christine works amongst forests and urban sites, associating found objects and natural materials with an archaeology of an imagined time. Her facilitation practice includes a ‘Pigment to Paint’ workshop series, whereby she collaborates with schools, galleries and local organisations in hopes to spark a communal sense of belonging to our land.
